Epsom College – Financial Assistance

Scholarships and Exhibitions are awards for excellence in academic study, drama, music or sport. Throughout Epsom’s history, pupils holding awards invariably contribute much to the life of the School, and then bring their talents and aptitude to bear on the wider world.

For many, an award serves as recognition of their achievements and their potential; for others it is a route to securing a higher level of financial support by ways of a means-tested bursary.

Epsom College Bursaries

The College constantly reviews the way in which access to education at Epsom can be extended further, allowing talented children with less financially fortunate families to benefit from all that the school offers, both inside the classroom and without. The value of each bursary varies dependent on need, but can be equivalent to up to 100% of the fees.

As at September 2020, 77 College pupils were in receipt of means-tested support with nearly 58% of bursary awards worth 75% or more of the annual College fees. The average award is in excess of £20,000pa.

This support is provided with the help of the Education Trust, Epsom College Bursary Funds, The Old Epsomian Club and other generous benefactors.

Bursaries are available for pupils coming in at different entrance points across the school and are mostly awarded at entry into Year 7 and the Sixth Form. These awards vary depending on need, and range from 5% to 100% of the fees.

A pupil can be in receipt of a scholarship and a bursary. Significant bursaries are generally only awarded to those pupils who are able to demonstrate strong academic, sporting or performance skills, and who, in the opinion of the College, would benefit from an education at Epsom.

To apply for a means-tested bursary you will need to complete and return our application form by the date specified on the form, generally in mid-October for 16+ entry the following September, early January for Year 7 entry the following September (or Year 9 entry in two year's time). The form is available here.

Epsom College has limited bursarial funds to provide short-term assistance to current parents where there has been an unforeseen change in financial circumstances. Such awards are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed. For information on this for existing pupils please contact the Bursar.

All bursary applications are subject to annual means-testing and may be varied upwards or downwards depending on parental circumstances and financial information provided on review.

Scholarships

Epsom College offers scholarships to pupils who have shown particular academic aptitude or talent, specifically in performing arts or sport. Scholarships range in value from £750 to £6,000 per year.

Generally, 12 scholarships are offered annually to pupils in the Year 7 intake and details of the available awards and the assessment process can be found on the College’s website.  Pupils, both current and external applicants, can also apply for scholarships awarded to students moving into Year 9 and the Sixth Form.

Scholarships are usually tenable throughout a pupil’s time at the school, subject to the Headmaster’s satisfaction with their industry, performance and behaviour.
