Learning Support interventions at St Joseph’s

The Learning Support Department at St Joseph’s College aims to provide a warm, caring and welcoming environment in which the following interventions are offered to maximize the teaching and learning experiences of our students within a positive social context:

  • Students identified with literacy difficulties are taught tailored literacy programmes by a specialist teacher in dyslexia
  • Open-door, drop-in support offered on a daily basis
  • Touch typing, organisational skills, handwriting support put in place where the need is identified
  • Pastoral support provided
  • LS option offered at KS4 to deliver support across the curriculum, and to teach study and revision skills
  • In-class support of a LSA where appropriate
  • Catch-Up Reading programmes on a 1:1 basis
  • HWK club (after school)
  • Lunch Club

  • Students learn within a ‘can do’ approach with high expectations
