Children at Broomwood are educated together at Broomwood Pre-Prep, before moving to their own schools, Broomwood Prep – Boys and Broomwood Prep – Girls. Here, they take advantage of a broad and tailored education, within a single-sex learning environment but unlike regular single-sex schools, they come together for specialist activities in a co-educational setting. Broomwood Boys is very academically strong yet pastorally kind. Boys move on at 11+ or 13+ to top London day or boarding schools.

SEND Policy
Our learning support approach at Broomwood (Broomwood Pre-Prep, Broomwood Prep-Boys and Broomwood Prep-Girls) focuses on providing an inclusive environment for our pupils. We aim to encourage and support all pupils to be their best. We have a whole school approach to supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) which is coordinated by the Heads of Learning Support at each site. We also appreciate the need for school, parent and child to collaborate, to support personal and academic progress for pupils.
This policy outlines the steps that are taken to provide an inclusive education for all children, including those with SEND:
*Children with specific learning differences are identified, assessed and supported as early as possible.
*Reasonable steps are taken to ensure that appropriate resources, provision and support are provided for children with specific learning differences.
*Progress of these children is monitored and the effectiveness of the provision for these children is reviewed.
teachers are provided with the appropriate training, information and assistance to meet the learning needs of children, including those with SEND.
*The school works with pupils, parents and external specialists where needed, to plan for the most appropriate provision and support, to help children with SEND to maximise their learning opportunities.
Learning Support Guide for Parents
The Learning Support Team
All children at Broomwood Boys are supported with their learning in one way or another. Our teachers are well versed in supporting pupils who are neurodivergent and we pride ourselves on our collaboration. This approach focuses on providing an inclusive classroom environment and curriculum for pupils. Staff training is designed to ensure that we minimise boys having to leave classrooms for individual lessons and group support aims to reinforce the wider curriculum goals. Every teacher is a teacher of children with SEND and the learning support team work closely with all staff to help ensure that concerns are addressed and boys with learning differences or potential learning differences are supported. In addition to our teaching staff, we have a team of people who are there to provide extra support and guidance.
Our Ethos
At Broomwood Boys we celebrate Neurodiversity and value a whole school approach to understanding children’s learning profiles and helping them to reach their potential. Through assemblies, the PSHE curriculum, our school newsletter and the use of positive dialogue around learning differences, we encourage children to value each other’s strengths and to have a growth mind-set approach to their targets. Our teachers have regular professional development focusing on SEND and work in collaboration with the learning support department throughout the year to adapt provision. With children’s wellbeing at the heart of our provision, we aim to provide an inclusive learning environment and teaching strategies that support the whole child through their education here and beyond.
We strive to help children reach their potential across all areas of their learning through a positive and nurturing approach to support. For children with potential barriers to their learning and those identified with SEND, our inclusive practice involves an understanding and collaborative way of working to adapt provision. Where we feel that a child would benefit from working with or being assessed by an outside professional, we work closely with parents to make recommendations and to determine the next steps. We value pupil voice at Broomwood and support children with their understanding of their individual strengths and targets, alongside sharing strategies that can support their learning.
As a mainstream school with an inclusive ethos, our aim is to support children along their learning journeys. We aim to be open and honest with parents and share the reasonable adjustments that can be made to help children with their Broomwood journeys and to find the best fit for their next schools. If we ever felt that your child would thrive in a more specialist environment, we would work closely with you to explore options. Your child’s well-being is always at the heart of any guidance.
School Approach to Learning Support
All teachers support pupils with their learning and teachers will draw on their training, specialist recommendations and professional judgment to support pupils in their subject areas. The learning support department are there to provide further guidance, strategies and learning opportunities for those pupils who teachers feel may benefit from a further adapted approach. Teachers share observations and any concerns about children in our weekly tracking meetings and we make a collaborative decision about next steps. These could involve:
• Implementation of support strategies in class
• Targeted intervention groups
• A target session with one of the team
• Some targets to work on at home
