The welfare and well-being of all students at West Buckland underpins all aspects of school life as we guide pupils through the challenges of adolescence and help them to make sensible and informed choices.
By embracing resilience, honesty, kindness, respect, and curiosity, we aim to unlock the true potential of our students. Our inclusive and global community provides the perfect environment for them to flourish. At West Buckland, learning is at the core of everything we do.
GCSE and A-level performance has been amongst the best in the South West for a good number of years. The five-year average for Grades passed at A-level at A* to B is 72%. Our first-class teaching and personal support, alongside outstanding higher education advice, frequently enables students to surpass their own expectations.
Our ECA (extra curricular activities) schedule has been significantly extended and improved in recent years, developing a vision that steers pupils and parents through a changing and challenging educational landscape, giving them the best possible chance in a future of global fluidity.
The school has a lively, diverse boarding community that enjoys attractive accommodation. There are 4 boarding houses on site: Gables - accommodates boys and girls in Years 4-6; Boyer - for boys Years 7-11, Bamfylde - girls in Years 7-11 and Parker's for girls and boys in Years 12-13. Boarding students are under the supervision of caring houseparents who live adjacent to the houses and are on duty from early evening until the following morning.
