Windermere School is nestled on a hillside within 45 acres of the National Park landscape that inspired such writers as Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. Overlooking Lake Windermere, the fells and mountains beyond, Windermere School enjoys one of the most picturesque views in the Lake District and, arguably, the best school view in the world.
Outdoor Learning is woven throughout every aspect of the curriculum at Windermere School, with Adventure not merely being an activity, but a way of life.
Hodge Howe is our Private Watersports Centre, located on Lake Windermere. Here our students learn to sail, kayak, canoe and embrace the spirit of adventure, which is central to life here at Windermere School.
The beauty of our location, expertise of our staff, and wealth of facilities are enhanced by our size. Windermere is a deliberately small school. Pupils are known and cherished for who they are, every family is a vital part of our community and the voices of everyone are heard. Our classes are small, our pupils are happy, our education is bespoke, and the results are stunning.
It is a rare privilege to be part of a school with Windermere’s history and potential. We invite you to take a closer look and would be delighted to welcome you and your family to our school.
Windermere School values talent and ability in all disciplines in the curriculum. We therefore award scholarships to students starting in Years 7, 9 and 12.
Scholarships have the following values:
Years 7 – 8: £150 per year
Years 9 – 11: £250 per year
Years 12 – 13: £350 per year
Scholarships are not paid as cash or given as reductions in the school fees. They are given as credits to be
redeemed against school trips. This is to help enable all students to enjoy the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities on offer, whatever the financial means of the family. A separate application can be made for assistance with school fees but such applications for bursaries are made by the parents to the Finance office.
At Windermere School we offer Academic Scholarships for entry into Years 7, 9 and 12, and Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Music and Sport Scholarships for entry into Years 9 and 12. We also offer an International Scholarship for entry into any year and a Round Square Scholarship for entry into Year 12. All candidates for Scholarships must be present at Windermere School on the appropriate Scholarship Day, except those applying for the International or Round Square Scholarships.
The Headmaster will interview all candidates for Academic Scholarships. In some cases, these interviews may take place in the candidate’s current school. These interviews will be conducted within two weeks of the date of the examinations.
The Scholarship deadlines take place at the end of January each year. Please see our website for more information.
