ISC statement following the Education Select Committee hearing on integrity of public exams
The ISC has issued a statement following the Education Select Committee hearing looking at the integrity of public exams in both the independent and state sectors.
ISC chairman, Barnaby Lenon, said: “We deplore the lack of integrity displayed by the two exam-setter teachers this summer and congratulate the two schools concerned on their rapid and unequivocal actions.
“Incidents involving exam-setters giving too much information about questions are very rare and the ISC does not, therefore, think it would be sensible to ban teachers from setting questions – they are the experts. However, there clearly is a conflict of interest if an exam-setter is teaching the course and we are pleased that Ofqual is considering ways of tackling the problem.”
