Julie Robinson, chief executive of the ISC, has requested an urgent meeting with ministers amid concerns that the government's VAT on fees policy could see thousands of GCSE pupils forced out of their independent schools.

Ms Robinson has called for ministers to meet with the ISC to discuss "how disruption could be avoided for Year 10 and Year 11 students".

Speaking to The Telegraph, she warned: “This is a particular issue given the mid-year introduction. Thousands of students’ GCSE results could be put at risk, with a knock-on effect for their future studies."
