A spokesperson for ISC, along with several headteachers, has warned that adding VAT to school fees from January would drive more pupils out of the sector.
The ISC spokesperson said: “I think that it could prompt a lot of parents to think again because they will have been budgeting based on a certain date that’s now been moved.
“I think it’s going to lead to more parents leaving. It’s going to put more schools at risk. And ultimately, it’s going to jeopardize the amount of revenue the Treasury hopes to raise long term because the more parents who leave and the more schools closed the less tax the Treasury’s getting in the long term.”
